Congratulations to several area golfers for advancing to the state golf tournament for 2009.  Glencoe High School's boys' team advanced by finishing in a tie for second with Good Hope in the boys' 3A North sub-state tournament held at Silver Lakes Golf Course.  The team shot a 323 total and finished 2 shots behind winner Holly Pond.  Team members include Zach Keener, Bradley McGuire, Trey Irwin, Reece Wagnon and Tanner Dixon.

There were several other local golfers qualifying as individuals.  Etowah's Ashley Whisenant and Glencoe's Brittney Watkins finished first and second respectively in the Girls' 1A - 5A North sub-state and Gadsden City's Amanda Richey qualified in girls' 6A competition.  In the boys' 1A - 2A, Westbrook's Wil Catanzaro also advanced as an individual.
All competitors will compete May 11 and 12 in Prattville at the Robert Trent Jones Capital Hill Courses.  Competition will be held on the Legislature and Senator courses and will be 18 holes each day.  Daily results may be viewed online at www.bamagolf.com.
