2011 Gadsden Area Boys High School Golf Tournament Link to Photo Gallery at The Gadsden Times... Zach Contris fired a 7-under-par 65 Tuesday to win his second straight Gadsden Area Boys High School Golf Tournament by six strokes at Twin Bridges Golf Course in Gadsden. Contris' closest competitor was teammate Riley Wilson. Wilson shot a 71 to finish as the tournament's runner-up for the second year in a row. Contris and Wilson led a group of four Eagles who broke 80 on the day to help Hokes Bluff run away from the field and capture the team title with a total of 293, 33 shots better than second-place Sardis. Trey Adock and Jacob Miller rounded out the Eagles' scoring with a 78 and 79, respectively. Playing in the lead group alongside Glencoe's Christopher Tinker, Etowah's Ashleigh Whisenant and Sardis' Jesse Force, Contris birdied the par-4 second before rolling off three straight birdies on four, five and six. Contris' only bogey of the day came on the par-3 eighth, as he finished the front nine with a 33. The back saw Contris make four more birdies, culminating with a lengthy birdie putt on the par-3 16th. The tournament was also the second tournament victory in a row for Contris this season. Friday, he took home first place with 2-under 70 in an eight-team tournament at Silver Lakes in Glencoe. Wilson shot a 2-under 34 on the front before coming in with a 1-over 37 on the back. Southside's Cliff Tucker had the third-best individual round with a 1-over 73, while Whisenant, who will play golf at Memphis next year, shot a 74. David Poovey fired a 77 to lead Glencoe, while Brett Garrard had a 78 for Etowah. Chase Boldin's 79 was the best individual score for Sardis. In the team scoring, Gadsden City was third with a 328, while Glencoe was fourth at 336. Etowah's 340 was good enough for fifth, and Southside and Westbrook rounded out the field with a 352 and 260, respectively. |
