Special Awards Winners

The following awards were presented at the annual Gadsden Junior Golf association banquet following the Etowah County Junior Golf Championship:

The George Moon Memorial Scholarship - Dustin Turnipseed
 
The David Faucett Memorial Scholarship Award - Patrick Parker
 
The Chad Harcrow Most Improved Player Award - Zach Keener
 
The Dr. Robert Graves Sportsmanship Award - Dustin Turnipseed
 
Batson Wins Again

Mallory Batson won the Signal Mountain Invitational in Signal Mountain, Tenn., played June 20-22. Batson shot rounds of 69-74-76 for a five shot victory. The win is her fourth of 2006.
 

Two In a Row For Whisenant

Ashleigh Whisenant won her second Arrowhead Junior Golf event in a row June 21-22. Whisenant shot rounds of 94-88 in the Tannehill National Junior Classic in McCalla to win the Girls 11-14 age division.
 

Whisenant Wins Dixie Section Tournaments

Ashleigh Whisenant won the girls 12-13 year old age division in the PGA Dixie Section tournaments by shooting 85 at Gadsden Country Club on May 30 and 88 at Anniston Country on June 8.  She also won the Girls Ballantrae Junior Classic at Ballantrae Golf Club in Pelham June 13 and 14 with rounds of 90-88.

 

Batson wins golf crown

MOBILE - With a state title on the line, Etowah's Mallory Batson brought her best game.

The junior captured the girls' 2006 Alabama State High School individual golf title with a final round 72 Tuesday at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove after holding the lead following the first round.

Batson finished the tournament at 5-over par, nine strokes better than runner-up Ashley Cox, who was just three strokes back going into the final round.

Kelly Burgess and Hannah Collier were tied for third, one stroke behind Cox.

Pleasant Valley's Emi Boozer tied for 16th at 16-over par after shooting a final-round 88. Glencoe's Jamie Klepsig tied for 26th at 22-over, after shooting a 94 in the final round.

 

Congratulations to Nathan Hubbard

Nathan is a golfer at Sardis High School.  Sardis went to the State Tournament and finished 5th in the 3A division.  Nathan finished 6th place individually out of 47 golfers.  He received MVP honors from his coach and received low medalist honors 8 times this season.  During the sectional tournament he tied for low medalist and after a playoff came in as the 2nd low medalist of the tournament.  Nathan is a good student graduating under an advanced academic diploma.  Nathan is an  All-State Golf Team member for 2006.
 

Scottsboro High School Invitational Golf Tournament

The Scottsboro High School Invitational Golf Tournament was held on Friday, April 21, 2006 at Goosepond Colony Golf Course in Scottsboro. There was a total field of sixty-seven boys and forty-seven girls. First place winner for the girls was Etowah’s Mallory Batson with a score of 76. Glencoe’s Jamie Klepsig finished second with a 77. First place girl’s team was Scottsboro with a team score of 257.  Second place was Decatur with a score of 267. Mallory Batson and Jamie Klepsig were named to the All Tournament Team.  For the boys, Etowah’s T.J. Butts finished fifth with a 76. He was chosen for the boy’s All-Tournament Team. For the boy’s teams Huntsville finished first with a 308 and Scottsboro finished second with a 311.
